Field Order N 222

Originally this mission was briefed for a tire production facility in Frankfurt but because of poor target weather, the Target of Opportunity of Derbach was struck. The 577th was assigned lead with Lt Gray, lead Bombardier. The mission was led by two PFF ships and take-off for (24) aircrews began at 0800. Target weather was also poor over the target to which the Group diverted causing the PFF to be inaccurate. All aircraft bombed through 6/lOths clouds or greater - the results being off target and believed to impact in an open field.
