392nd Bomb Group

Target: Hanau - 10 November 1944 - Mission #199

The airfield near the town and marshalling yards were assigned as primary and secondary targets. General briefings were conducted for (19) crews at 0445 and 0600 hours on a mission scheduled for GH lead because of predicted weather. A total of (688) 100# bombs were dropped at 1301 hours on the GH lead ship with unobserved results though estimates of the release were thought to be good. One ship, #250 of the 578th, with Flight Officer J. F. Joyce’s crew had two engines shot out and was forced to land at Louvain airfield, all members safe. One crew member on Lieutenant Rose’s crew of the 578th was wounded. Again friendly fighter support was very good and no fighters were seen. Flak was accurate enough to damage (9) Liberators. Returning bombers landed around 1630 hours.
